December 25 How to: Viewing eBooks/Word documents on the Zune HD.Like that photo? If you’re looking for a way to view and edit word documents on the Zune HD, you’re out of luck. Unlike what you probably figured on a Windows Mobile device or iPod Touch, there isn’t an app for that. Not at all. The Zune HD’s lack of apps is one of the reasons I’ve come to regret purchasing it. Somehow, I feel cheated knowing that the [Unanimously deemed] brilliant Tegra chip isn’t quite living up to it’s true potential. It also seems wasted on a device like the Zune HD. The closest thing to viewing a word document you can get on the Zune HD is viewing a picture of the document. I’ve tried a few programs and free online methods to converting text to the eBook format for later reading on the Zune HD, but as the old saying goes, you’ll have to do it yourself if you want it done quite right. It’s really the best way, and I’ve found it to be somewhat rewarding. To do this yourself, you can just use Paint—you know, that program that comes with your pc. That’s it. First, open paint. Resize the image to 272 x 480 pixels. This is the Zune HD’s resolution, so the picture will take up the entire screen when viewed. Next, invert the colors of the photo, or you can just re-color it black. I only did this to preserve the screen of the device and to be able to better view the picture at night—You don’t need to color it black. After that, simply open the word document, and copy the text you want to use onto the image. I suggest that the text be 12 pt sized. Be sure to recolor the text white [Obviously]. After that, just save it as a new image and there you have a snippet of your document. It’s not quite the real thing, but it’s the closest we’ll get for the time being, and it sorely beats programs that really do nothing special that as you’ve just seen [If I held your interest long enough], can’t do your own damn self. For the sake of consistency, I recommend using the Zegoe UI font [Good luck finding that], but you can use whatever font you prefer. Just make sure it’s size is suitable for reading without zooming in on the photo. It will look terrible when you do. December 20 Snow!!!August 27 Zune head phonesGot them today. They fit pretty well and sound very loud to the extent where I need to listen to songs at 1/2 volume |
